Save Kangaroos From Slaughter--Stop SB 880!
Kangaroos face imminent danger if a California bill becomes law.
Senate Bill 880 would legalize kangaroo skin sales in California, where they have been banned since 1970.
Millions of kangaroos are shot for their skins every year in Australia. According to Australian government code, orphaned joeys and wounded adults should be killed by being decapitated or hit sharply on the head "to destroy the brain." When hunters kill a mother kangaroo with a baby in her pouch, the baby is often yanked from the mother’s lifeless body and stomped to death or left to writhe in agony.
Allowing kangaroo skins to be sold in California would threaten the species' existence, as there are already not enough kangaroos to meet the industry’s demands. According to Australian government statistics, kangaroo populations have been dwindling and are now the lowest they have been in more than a decade. Although SB 880 would allow the sale of skins from non-endangered kangaroos only, hunters usually kill kangaroos at night and don't always check to make sure that kangaroos aren't endangered before shooting them. An increased demand for any kangaroo skin will further jeopardize Australia's dwindling kangaroo populations.

Kangaroos need your voice. Please, help stop SB 880 and protect kangaroos by writing to the California Tourism Board, letting it know that you will not be visiting California if the bill is passed. Kangaroos—like all animals—are not throw rugs, purses, jackets, or shoes, and they deserve to be protected from cruelty and unnecessary death.
